Description: | From Wind Festival Website: Spring time in New Mexico brings wind and sunny skies, creating perfect conditions for our Annual Wind Festival at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood. The skies will be filled with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes throughout the weekend. Bring your own kite, buy one at the Festival. New this year, learn how to make a kite during the kite designing class in the Arts and Crafts building on-site.
Kites will be flown in series and arc across the sky like floating freight trains, while dozens of imaginative individual kite shapes rise and fall with the wind gusts. Visitors can participate in kite flying contests or just fly their kites for fun on large grass fields. An incredible free-flight Peregrine Falcon demonstration will be presented at 2 p.m. each day by local expert falconer Tom Smylie. The audience will experience these magnificent birds close up and learn how the fastest raptor on earth survives in the wild. Weather permitting, there will also be a fly-by of experimental aircraft. Admission to the festival is FREE.
Visitors are also invited to come into Wildlife West Nature Park and native wildlife zoo. Get up close to the 25 species of New Mexico wildlife including black bear, cougars, endangered Mexican wolves, pronghorn, Crested Caracaras, raptors and more. Admission to Wildlife West is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for students. Children under five are free.
